Energy Minister: All Algerian natural gas supplies from Algeria to Spain to go via “Medgaz” pipeline

ALGIERS- Minister of Energy and Mines Mohamed Arkab affirmed, Thursday, that all Algerian natural gas supplies to Spain will be done via the Medgaz pipeline, according to a statement by the ministry.

During his meeting at the headquarters of his ministry with the Spanish Ambassador to Algiers Fernando Moran Calvo Sotelo, Arkab affirmed “Algeria’s full commitment to covering all natural gas supplies to Spain via “Medgaz,” according to the statement.

He pointed out, “The capabilities available to Algeria to meet the increasing demand for gas from European markets, especially the Spanish market, thanks to the flexibility in terms of the country’s liquefaction capabilities.”

The minister also expounded Algeria’s efforts to ensure the security of natural gas supplies to the Spanish market through the large investments made to introduce natural gas to this market in the best conditions.

In this regard, Arkab highlighted the recent projects launched, such as Medgaz gas pipeline capacity expansion project that connects Algeria directly to Spain.

The meeting was an occasion for the two parties to discuss cooperation relations between Algeria and Spain in the field of energy, which were described as “excellent”, especially those related to the supply of natural gas to the Spanish market from Algeria.

Arkab reiterated Algeria’s will to strengthen these relations and strengthen the partnership between the two countries for the benefit of both parties.

Meanwhile, the minister evoked the new hydrocarbons law and its impact on partnership, calling on Spanish companies to strengthen their presence in Algeria and take advantage of the incentives offered by the new legislation.

The Minister also expressed Algeria’s desire to expand cooperation with Spain to include areas of mutual interest.
