Algeria Energy Minister receives Equinor CEO
ALGIERS- Energy and Mines Minister, Mohamed Arkab, received, in Algiers, a delegation of the Norwegian petroleum company EQUINOR headed by its CEO Anders Opedal, who is making his first visit abroad since his appointment in November 2020, according to the ministry communiqué.
The two parts have reviewed, during the meeting, bilateral cooperation in the field of energy, particularly the exploration and production of hydrocarbons where they expressed their satisfaction with the excellence of the partnership between Sonatrach and Equinor. the same source added.
“Business and investment opportunities were discussed between the two sides, where Mr. Arkab presented to Equinor’s delegation the content and objectives of the new hydrocarbon law that aims at reviving the exploration and exploitation activities in Algeria” the statement added.
Equinor, along with Sonatrach, was invited to explore ways and means of strengthening and expanding the partnership between the two companies and sharing experience and expertise, particularly with regard to environmental protection and new technologies related to greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint.
According to the statement, the two parties have agreed to strengthen cooperation on other projects outside of fuels in Algeria, especially renewable energy projects including solar and hydrogen.
As a reminder, in May this year, Sonatrach and Equinor started signing a memorandum of understanding to extend the existing partnership.
The meeting, according to the same source, was an opportunity to exchange views and analysis of the international oil market and the major developments that characterize the oil and gas industries on the eve of the twenty-sixth session of the United Nations climate conference (COP26).
